The United States is the largest commercial market in the world. The biggest shopping event on the calendar for decades has been Black Friday. Taking place after the Thanksgiving celebrations, stores slash prices across the board, with some putting on colossal savings for a select few customers who get in first.
With the rise of online shopping, a day was added to this end-of-November flurry of spending. Cyber Monday gives online stores their turn to put on offers and discounts. Of course, many online stores run their own Black Friday deals, too – often for weeks in advance of the day itself.
Gradually, Cyber Monday has picked up as a very convenient time of the year to get the best deals. In 2025, the sheer volume of shopping set a new record.
Over $14 billion in Online Spending
The scenes of Black Friday are famous well beyond the US. Droves of people charging into stores, grabbing TVs, body-checking other shoppers out of the way, and securing incredible deals on usually luxury items are familiar to many. Stores continue to put on big sales events for Black Friday, but they’re also keen to promote online buying.
Although expectations were already high, the eventual tally of the online shopping event of Cyber Monday 2025 wasn’t expected to be quite as colossal as it ended up being. In the US alone, customers spent enough to set the new record of $14.25 billion, beating the $14.2 billion forecast from Adobe.
Expanding to the five-day window of Cyber Week from Thanksgiving to Cyber Monday, stores generated $44.2 billion in online sales. The $11.8 billion spent on Black Friday online was a record on its own. This surge of spending online in a rush akin to Black Friday itself tracks the ever-growing attention being paid to online storefronts.
Expectations for Perpetual Online Deals

More and more people are becoming conditioned to the thinking that the price you see online can be reduced. Being new to an email subscription can get you 10% off, platforms exist to funnel you as many coupons as possible, and most sites have a sale or outlet section that’s continually being updated.
In the most competitive corners of the internet, ongoing promotions for new and existing customers are essential. When the streaming space became overcrowded, many opted to offer a month for free. Elsewhere, free trials have been built into daily promotions for users. This is the case with the library of bingo promotions found online.
Newcomers expect to get, and do get, a welcome offer of free spins and a bingo bonus. After that, there are cash prizes to win on top of games, a daily prize wheel spin, free tickets each day, and more free ways to play online. All of this is essential in this industry, and increasingly, other sites are finding that they need ongoing promos, too.
The record-breaking sales event of Cyber Monday is the result of a combination of an increased focus from stores to expand the holiday sales window to the internet and people becoming accustomed to getting deals online. Bar major disruptions, we can expect to see an even bigger Cyber Monday event in 2026.
